Jane Dawson is a violinist and teacher who often plays in her maiden name, Jane Campbell. She led the Hampshire Youth Orchestra and played with the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain before studying at the Royal College of Music in London. She was a member of the London Philharmonic Orchestra for many years, performing in many of the world’s great concert halls, and working with the leading conductors and soloists in concerts and recordings.
As family life became more demanding, Jane turned her attention to teaching and freelance playing, and worked with Alison Cooke at Russell House School in Otford, Sevenoaks, where she started a huge number of youngsters on the violin. She had phenomenal success in preparing pupils for music scholarships at secondary school and became Head of Strings at Sevenoaks School in 2001.
Jane started playing with the London Concert Orchestra in the 1980s, in London’s Royal Albert Hall, Royal Festival Hall and at the Barbican, as well as giving frequent concerts in Birmingham’s Symphony Hall. She has played in many ensembles in the South East, leading orchestras on numerous occasions for her husband as well as working regularly with Clifford Lister, Mark Deller and the Stour Music Festival.
